Mille Johansson from Katrineholm and co-driver Johan Grönvall from Arvika continued their progress in the FIA World Rally Championship’s WRC2 category by securing fifth place in WRC2 and third in WRC2 Challenger at Rally Estonia – their strongest result of the season so far.
On Estonia’s ultra-fast gravel roads, the Swedish duo delivered their best WRC2 performance since stepping up to the category as the reigning FIA Junior WRC Champions.
“It has been a tough but very educational weekend. We showed good pace at times and felt that we made progress throughout the rally, but there are still details to improve if we want to fight at the very front. Estonia is a unique event with incredibly fast roads where you need complete confidence in both the car and the pace notes at all times. The speed shown by the top three crews was right on the absolute limit of what’s possible,” said Mille Johansson.
Despite the fierce competition, Johansson leaves Estonia with plenty of positives.
“I think we managed the weekend well. We brought the car home, completed valuable kilometres and gained a lot of experience against a very strong field. These are the kinds of weekends that help you develop as a driver.”
“A big thank you to the team and to Johan for doing a fantastic job throughout the rally. We’ll take all the positives with us, analyse what we can improve and come back even stronger for the next event,” Johansson concluded.
The next challenge comes quickly, with Rally Finland taking place from 30 July to 2 August. The event will be the final planned WRC2 outing of the season for Johansson and Grönvall together with M-Sport Ford.
